My personal experience on using Buyee Japan online buying service proxy (full review)

Buyee lets you buy items from different online shops based on Japan including Yahoo Auctions. You don't need to understand Japanese to order items just give them the URL of the item they will bought it for you and ships the item with their Japanese address and forwards your package overseas. So I got curious and since I'm a fan of online shopping I might as well try it.

The first time I use Buyee I was amazed on how they respond back with my inquiries as they respond back with english and its really good you can communicate with them easily. Their service is easy to use and understand however with this pros mentioned there are also cons.

With their shady business tactics, there are a lot of hidden fees they throw on you. If it weren't for the convenience on buying "rare" items that are not locally available I wouldn't use Buyee at all.  A word of caution to those who will first time using their service.

Now to the cons, first is the consolidation fee they are offering, this consolidation fee let's you combine 2 packages for 500 yen and 3 and above packages for 1000 yen (fee as of 11/12/2016) which is good if you don't want your items to be individually shipped. Now before you use consolidation service make sure to include 3 and more of your packages otherwise they'll charge you again for an additional 1000 yen and note you cannot cancel the service.

I think its just an excuse so they can milk money from you. Honestly you don't need to pay that service as I've been using other online buying service proxy and they don't have that option. Any package with your name and address is yours and why do you need to consolidate different packages just to make sure its yours. Pft what a rip off.

Second thing I hate about Buyee is that they don't tell you exactly the weight of your package. I noticed that when I tried to order a bunch of model kits from a different online shop, at their checkout, it shows the weight of each item you bought then estimates the shipping fee. For 8 items, it weights about 2.5 kgs approximately on the other hand Buyee here says 3 of my model kits I won in Yahoo Auctions weights about 2 kgs and it should have been less than 1 kgs (note 3 of the model kits I bought at the online shop are the same with the model kits I won in Yahoo auctions Buyee and when my package arrive I tried measuring their weight just to see if its accurate and it was less than 1 kgs).

They also got optional options to milk you money services such as Insured Plans where they insured the delivery of your package in case of damaged items they'll refund you an amount of money another is the inspection plan wherein they inspect your item just to see if its complete. Lastly, another optional service is the protective packaging where they will repack your package in a secure manner which I found out that other user reviews online claiming Buyee use papers instead of bubble wraps to pack the packages. I don't really know since I didn't avail all of the optional service.

I’ve got these 3 items from Yahoo Auctions via Buyee and it was very expensive. you'll have to pay fee for the auction, shipping fee from the seller to Buyee warehouse, consolidation fee (items I bought are from different sellers), shipping fee from Buyee to your home.

Break down of cost:
Item 1 = 1000 JPY
Item 2 = 500 JPY
Item 3  = 1511 JPY
Domestic Shipping  Fee =  2044 JPY (3 domestic shipping fees from 3 different sellers)
Package Consolidation Fee = 1000 JPY (for 3 items)
Insurance Plans = 0 JPY
Protective Packaging = 0JPY
International Shipping Fee = 2450 JPY

Total: 8505 JPY

Buying things is such a hassle especially online, buyers risk their time and money to look and buy for an item that's not locally available to them. Never again I will use their service (or perhaps if they have low fees I might reconsider). I just wished that Buyee can learn to love their customers.

That's it for now.

EDIT: Don't use buyee when you plan on shipping a big package.

  1. Wow. I should've read your review first before impulsively buying an item using Buyee. T_T I was so desperate in finding a way to buy a rare item that I intend to give as a gift, kaya napadpad ako kay Buyee, at first glance, their offer is very enticing and mapapakagat ka talaga sa sobrang dali magpabili ng item from Japan and deliver sa doorstep mo. Nag-try ako nung "Estimation tool" nila
------> http://i.imgur.com/ad4C0Vf.jpg 1,450 yen lang na international shipping fee? Solb! Pero ngayon, hinihintay ko pa yung katakot takot na hidden fees na ipapatong nila.

Break down of cost (for now):
    1 Item = 4,136 yen
Domestic shipping fee = ??? (inaantay pa sa warehouse nila yung package)
    Insurance Plans = 0 yen
    Protective Packaging = 0 yen
International Shipping Fee = 1,450 yen (based sa estimation tool)

    1. So far I haven't tried other buying service proxy. But I plan to use FromJapan maybe next year after the holiday season.

Buyee is good when buying small items and in 1 store. However in my experience I bought items from multiple sellers. That's probably my computation end up like that one from above.

  3. Shipping is beyond expensive and not regulated or consistent.

  4. Should have read your post first. Just got totally ripped off by Buyee today. Package was split into two deliveries by the seller and I was made to pay for EMS TWICE along with the domestic shipping fee. So a 20 bucks item with shipping fee around 25 bucks became a 75 bucks item.

Customer service is horrific. They reply you promptly but don't have answers to your queries and just beat around the bush. And when they finally get back to you, it's when your parcel is shipped and they don't accept anymore requests. Absolute bullshit.

Worst ever service. Stick to zenmarket
, they're transparent with their pricings and seldom allow such mess ups.

  8. PayPal din po ba ginamit ninyo? If so, among bank ang nag-issue ng card? in my case, ang card lang under ng PayPal is PayMaya so I'm wondering whether IYO ang cause. :(

Apparently nothing has changed, I found some items at Mercari, but apparently Mercari is completely blocked from ZenMarket for some reason, so I went with Buyee and didn't even realize there was a 1000 yen consolidation fee!

Before I'm even looking at shipping, I'm already paying double what these items cost.

    1. 1kjpy consolidation fee is for above two items. My ordered items have just been shipped, with a consolidation fee of 500jpy although still a ripoff. I should've known sooner before buying anything off of buyee. Same with OP, I ordered two items from two different sellers and the total hidden charges + shipping are, in fact, higher than the total cost of the items (2.4kg overall weight) I bought. What a scam.

  10. Honestly, my case is flowing smoother than others, yet I'm still very upset with Buyee.

Their customer service tried to trick me. They have 5000 yen shipping fee off coupon event going on.
Event required you to buy something FIRST TIME on Mercari + other sites.
I asked if I was eligible and they pretended like I am, when I'm not.

And I was charged 500 yen service fee for buying 1000 yen product. and I'm hearing Neokyo only costs like 250 yen service fee..

and yeah idc about their baiting insurance, protective packaging, but had to get consolidation. 1000 yen extra..

now with corona, only DHL ships to US, I might have to pay $50 on shipping fee. Pretty much $50 stuff costs $120 to get it shipped to you.

  11. I received my package today. I'll throw in some facts that'll help people.

I made my purchased on Oct 13th. Took hours to place my orders, sellers took 1-2 days to ship and 5 days to arrive to their warehouse, took 1 day to consolidate, took another day to ship. DHL took 3 days to deliver. So this entire process took 9 days for me.

    My contents were 5 x $10 = $50 items + $25 buyee service fee (500 yen each) + $10 to consolidation + $50 DHL shipping (600g) = $135 USD total
Do keep in mind that mines were clothes, so if you're purchasing figurines expect to pay a lot more with DHL, or wait until Japan Post EMS resumes.
Could be irrelevant, but they give you infinite storage timer because of Japan Post not shipping things due to corona.

They have wrong address format in the site, so do not follow their example, just type it like you do in your own country.
Also note that even though you pick no insurance, they will STILL cut open and check the content (and reseal with a tape) and censored the seller's information on the box.

They didn't make the packaging smaller during the consolidation process, I can't complain about this, because if it's a figurine, you don't want them to damage it with tight boxes, but I found it funny because it's clothes and they put it in like American shopping bag size package.

Their prefecture is located in Tokorozawa, which is near Tokyo. This is important, some other Proxy services might be located far off from Tokyo = slower shipping process.
Overall, I'm actually satisfied with the service, but won't use it again, because the service fee was ridiculous for me.

  12. I WILL NEVER EVER ORDER FROM BUYEE AGAIN.

Buyee? worst proxy ever. You will be charge more expensive for everything.

    Let's me tell you why.

I pre-order 6 digimon dim cards (2 x 3 set of the same type. the items are non-unique) from the same seller, placing order at the same time, buyee told me each of the dim card come on different packaging and I had to pay 250yen for EACH unit for consolidation fees. so I had to pay 1500yen on top of the shipping fees + 300 (flat fee per order) + 500 (a very expensive insurance fees).

I could understand if the seller has placed quantity limits or shipped it separately. However, this is not the case. I can even order more than 10 units from the same seller.

Next, I pre-ordered 3x digimon vital bracelet from buyee. What happened? they told me they cannot shipped up because they contained lithium battery. Well could only ship out if I paid 5000+ of shipping fees.

I was very agitated and they gave me a second solution which was to ship to my friend's Japanese address. Sure I followed through.

    What's next?

They charged me extra 500yen per item on top of my domestic shipping! WTH. Bloody money sucker and the customer service sucks. They can answer any questions regarding to cost and will suprise you with they expensive fees and charges.

WELL I SUGGEST YOU USE other proxy such as Neokyo, Whiterabbit, Zenmarket etc. So much better service and dont anyhow charge their users.
